Zygmunt Mineyko (Ζίγκμουντ Μινέικο), was a Polish aristocrat and army officer, who later became a naturalized Greek citizen and a public figure in Greece. His daughter, Sofia Mineyko, was the first wife of Georgios Papandreou, (Γεώργιος Παπανδρέου) former Prime Minister of Greece.
Andreas G. Papandreou, Biography
Mineyko was a chief engineer in Epirus and Thessaly, where he built roads and fortifications. He showed an interest in the archaeology of the region.
Mineyko traveled to Dodona with Karapanos and found many Greek artifacts. Some of the artifacts of Dodona, that were in Mineyko’s possession, were later held by other Polish aristocratic members of the Mineyko family like Count Karol Potocki.
Mineyko collected them all and then gave them to the Berlin State Museum.
Piece of a plate with some letters of a two-line Greek inscription: ...ΠEPXO... / ...KATO…
Small fragment of a Greek inscription, the letters stamped in dots
Two-winged thorn arrowhead with barbs (military device)
Other military weapons found at Dodona and collected by Zigmunt Mineyko
One interesting thing is that the hinge in the picture that it was “invented” later was in fact used by Ancient Greeks and used by them (so it is an antique).
Tablet with Greek inscription: Isopolitan decree of the Molossians for the Apollonian Simias
One of four fragments of a sheet with a chased triple braided band (shield edge?)
Other fragments of military shields, were recovered by Zygmunt Mineyko at Dodona and then owned by his relative County Karol Potocki later.
